Ivan Allen Jr. Prize for Social Courage awarded to Venezuelan politician, industrial engineer, and opposition leader María Corina Machado Parisca

María Corina Machado Parisca received the Georgia Institute of Technology Ivan Allen Jr. Prize for Social Courage for her brave and relentless fight for democracy and human rights in Venezuela. Because the regime won't let her leave the country, she zoomed in from an undisclosed location in her country. Her children were on campus to represent their mother, and Ana Corina Sosa delivered a moving speech when she accepted the prize on her mother's behalf. Thanks also to Alvaro Rodriguez Arregui for a touching personal profile of María Corina and Ambassador Charles Shapiro, The Carter Center's Jennie Lincoln, Americas Society/Council of the Americas' Eric Farnsworth and CNN's Rafael Romo for helping everyone understand the difficult context María Corina and millions of Venezuelans are committed to changing.

May we all have at least some of the courage to follow her example when it comes to resisting unjust and illegal pressures.
