Great pleasure to preside over the recent plenary keynote during the 36th Annual Conference on Medievalism, hosted by Michael Evans at Delta College, MI. Minsoo Kang, professor of history at the University of Missouri - St. Louis, and author of Sublime Dreams of Living Machines: The Automaton in the European Imagination and Invincible and Righteous Outlaw: The Korean Hero Hong Gildong in Literature, History. and Culture, spoke on “East Asian Medievalism? The Case of Hong Gildong, the Korean Robin Hood.” Lots of inspiring insights and thought-provoking questions, especially about imposing western models of temporality and periodicity on non-western countries and their traditions.
